Keech Hospice are seeking a dedicated Children’s Social Work Assistant to join our experienced Social Work Team. Along with an experience Social Worker you will be supporting children and their families across Luton, Bedfordshire, and Hertfordshire. This is an opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team both internally and externally.  This role is Part-Time offering 18 Hours across the weekdays in a rewarding environment, advocating for our younger patients.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Assisting the Children’s Palliative Care Social Worker to assess and support the psycho-social needs of children and their families, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with Keech’s Children’s In-Patient Unit, Community Team, and day support services 
  • Providing information, advice, emotional and practical support for children and their families
  • Acting as an advocate for patients and families, helping them access services and resources
  • liaising with external agencies, including local authority children’s social care, housing departments, GPs, external allied health professionals and others
  • Engaging directly with families in their homes, the community, and onsite to assess needs and risks, providing support as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential records and documentation in line with Keech policy and procedures
  • Promoting safeguarding policies and actively participating in safeguarding meetings, as well as other social work led external meetings as required.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, and prioritising in a sensitive environment

 

What You’ll Need

  • Previous experience working with children in a health or social care setting with a willingness to learn
  • Health & Social Care Level 2 NVQ or equivalent qualification/experience with a basic understanding of palliative care
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, able to navigate challenging emotional situations
  • Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for attention to detail
  • Understanding of multidisciplinary team roles, safeguarding vulnerable children
  • Confident, with a reflective approach to practice
